Do you know Feb 14 is about?
Originally, it was a day to commemorate Saint Valentine, who was martyred at the time of the Roman Emperor’s cruel persecution against Christians in AD300.
In today's modern world, On Valentine’s day in Japan, it is a day where girls give chocolates to boys.
Girls give chocolate gifts to show her love to their boyfriends. Others give so-called, ‘duty chocolate gift’, Giri Choco (義理チョコ), to their male workmates, friends, or elders like male relatives and work managers.
Another gift is called ‘Tomo Choco (友チョコ)’, where girls just give to female friends.
Next month, on Mar 14, is the day where boys return the favour and gift the girls with presents, cookies, marshmallows, etc.
Is there anything special about Valentine’s day in Australia? What is it different about it from Japan?
